Where to have dinner
in Kaliningrad: gastrobar “Vetvi”

Looking for minimalist design and authentic cuisine, I came across reviews of the restaurant “Vetvi”. A Friday evening is the perfect time for a new experience and gastronomic impressions.

The place is on the embankment of the Fish Village, and its panoramic windows let you admire the views after an evening walk around Kant Island.

The design of the entrance immediately tells you that you are on the right track: fresh spring flowers in pots and a composition of branches framing the entrance. If you want to have dinner in Kaliningrad in a romantic setting — this is the place.

I decided to book a table in advance. On the website you can easily see the menu and the location and get a sense of the restaurant’s cooking. Judging by the photos, my expectations would be met.
A restaurant employee asked me on the phone about the purpose of my visit and offered to choose a hall.

The first thing I noticed was the laconic interior and thoughtful details, natural materials: lots of wood, air and light.

Light wooden tabletops, stone cutlery holders, concrete columns, wooden compositions and ceramic tableware in natural colours.

Two halls — a light one at the entrance, with chalky textured walls, glass décor elements and natural light from huge windows. The second hall is a contrasting antipode: dark and ornamental, with an open kitchen.
Sea sand is visible under the transparent top of the glass counter.

There were few guests, and the order was brought very quickly. I chose roti flatbreads with cream cheese and smoked butter, a salad with roast beef and sun-dried tomatoes and, for the main course, a flank steak with wild mushrooms. To drink — a cocktail with pink gin, and coffee.

As a compliment the waiter brought non-alcoholic white wine. It was wonderful and worth trying — bright, rich, with a pear aftertaste.

Grilled roti flatbreads with cheese — the taste is very similar to pancake batter. The hot flatbread with the most delicate cheese spread melts in the mouth.
The salad with roast beef is a mix of green salad, juicy beef and spicy tomatoes with a tart, meaty flavour, all dressed with a mango and lemon juice sauce. A refined and exotic taste.

The flank steak was also beyond praise. Long, juicy pieces of beef, fried and lightly stewed. The side dish is breaded mushrooms. A special note was added by the presentation: golden foil decorated the meat like a cobweb.

The cocktail with pink gin, strawberry liqueur and egg-white foam was, for me, too sweet, but an interesting combination.
Dinner in Kaliningrad at the gastrobar "Vetvi" cost me almost 2,000 roubles.

I was left with a pleasant impression. I liked the calm, intimate atmosphere of the evening: light background music and soft lighting, superb dishes and the staff’s work.
It is a good place to relax with a partner or with close friends — to enjoy the company and excellent food.
