The nearest seaside resorts to Kaliningrad are Zelenogradsk and Svetlogorsk, and further along the coast, the Curonian Spit. Without a car the train is the most convenient: it does not get stuck in traffic, and the resort stations are close to the beach.
Zelenogradsk• The train from the South Station takes about 45–50 minutes, with several departures during the day.
• By car — about 40 minutes without traffic, 30 km north of Kaliningrad.
• What to see —
sights of Zelenogradsk (in Russian), where to eat —
cafés and restaurants (in Russian).
Svetlogorsk• Trains run from both the North and the South Station; the trip takes about an hour.
• By car — about an hour along the highway past the airport, longer in season and at weekends.
Curonian Spit• Without a car: train to Zelenogradsk, then a bus to the villages on the spit.
• By car — about 40 km to the entrance of the national park; entry is paid. Prices and rules are on the website of the Curonian Spit National Park.
Tips• Train and bus timetables change with the seasons — check them on Yandex.Schedules before you go.
• In summer and at weekends it is crowded in the morning towards the sea — buy tickets in advance and set off early.
• It is handy to leave your things in the apartment: check-in from 2:00 pm, check-out by 11:00 am, and you can come back from the sea in the evening.
If you travel without a car, rent an apartment near a station — you can walk to the station:

Elblongskaya St., 21 — a few minutes from the South Station.
•
Leninsky Prospekt, 46 — about 900 m to the South Station.
•
Tikhaya St., 1 — about 15 minutes on foot to the North Station.
