Kaliningrad bar review
Tatyana Bar - in the TOP bars of Kaliningrad
Tinctures, cocktails and chebureki at very democratic prices!
The opening of a new trendy cocktail place in Kaliningrad — how could we miss that? Having secured my friend’s agreement to keep me company, we set off to explore the location in order to compile our own TOP of Kaliningrad bars.
The bar “Tatyana” is at the corner of Ofitserskaya and Karla Marksa streets in the very heart of the Amalienau district. In spring these streets are buried in blossom — an ideal place for a walk.
The entrance to the bar is hard to miss. A stylish loft-style portal: a concrete arch framed by steel-coloured stainless steel elements.
There are no reservations here, so keep this in mind when visiting — seating is first come, first served. The cafe itself is small: two adjoining rooms with tables and sofas, areas with shared tables and a bar counter.
The interior is creative: a modern urban style — high ceilings, exposed beams, rough grey walls and cement details, and all of it framed by the décor of a good old Soviet apartment. The first thing that comes to mind is the carpet with an unmistakable pattern that you have studied inside out. It is here too — only now this carpet is an artefact, safely tucked under the thick glass of a tabletop. Lace curtains, a decanter and a set of fish-shaped shot glasses, matryoshka dolls and jars of preserves — all of it has found its unconventional place and a fresh reading. The music is hits of the 90s, painfully familiar, and you cannot delete that from your memory now! There were many visitors (no room to spare) and it was a great stroke of luck that the guests before us started to pay and a table became free. He who hesitates is lost! Orders are taken at the counter by the entrance, and the bar staff then bring your drinks to the table.
So what did we decide to try: Olivier salad and pickled milk mushrooms with sour cream, a potato pie and, of course, cocktails. But more about that a little later!
The Olivier is that ideal cut in even cubes, and no apple or other heresy in the salad. Everything by the textbook. The pickled milk mushrooms are crunchy and slightly sweet, dressed with sour cream and spring onion.
The potato pie has an unexpected shape but tastes perfect. Thin dough fried in oil to a crispy crust, with mashed potato inside. The presentation is a dinner service for honoured guests that was kept in that very sideboard.
And the long-awaited drinks: my faithful companion was driving and could only try and rate the non-alcoholic cocktails. They were served in elegant Madame Pompadour glasses. But the telling names Clover Club or Ponstar leave no doubt that this is ambrosia.
The wide coupe glass was first made to order for the French royal court. And its shape is said to be an exact copy of the breast of Louis XV’s mistress, Madame de Pompadour.
I tried the Basil Smash. The cocktail was served in a highball. The colour — freshly mown lawn. A rich, thick aroma of greenery and lemon freshness set off the juniper tartness of the gin, and the egg-white foam adds a note of sweetness.
And my second choice was the Clover Club, but this time alcoholic. A coupe glass and a cocktail as thick as a smoothie. Raspberry purée and a soft berry gin with notes of spices.
My verdict is unequivocal — first-class. A lively, relaxed atmosphere, a stylish and non-trivial setting and a touch of nostalgia — all of this sets the bar “Tatyana” apart and definitely deserves a place in the TOP bars of Kaliningrad 2025.
We must come back here to try and reincarnate the taste of chocolate salami.
